Positives & Negatives: Younger Persons Brain Injury Workshop
The Younger Persons Brain Injury Workshop this year developed a radio play looking at issues faced by younger people in their daily lives. This year they focused on unemployment, relationships and problems with compensation claims. Although the play is light-hearted, it does look at some very serious real-life issues.
If you would like to take a look at the play please visit the Headway UK website.

HealthCare for London
Healthcare for London undertook a London-wide consultation from 30 November 2007 to 7 March 2008 and we asked HWNL members to submit their views, in particular because it was felt the consultation included too little about the services for brain injury survivors. Now the consultation is complete there will be a number of meetings to agree what happens next. If you would like to keep informed visit the Healthcare for London website

Action for Brain Injury Week: 31 March - 6 April
A brain injury can challenge every aspect of a survivor: walking, talking,
thinking and feeling. This year's awareness week is all about living with the
complex impact of a brain injury. In particular, the national poster campaign
highlights the great things brain injury survivors have achieved, while at the
same time struggling with daily life. Look out for posters, articles and other
publicity in your local area and the national press.

Headway North London at the Flora London Marathon
This year's London Marathon included 40 runners raising funds for Headway UK and another 150 raising funds for local Headway groups. This was an amazing effort and we did our bit to support them. We made two amazing banners, gave out lots of balloons, found a great spot to draw attention to ourselves, made friends with the policemen on duty, shouted ourselves hoarse urging the runners on - which was really appreciated - got wet in the pouring rain (but that didn't seem to matter at all!) and were totally inspired by those awesome athletes!
We managed to spot at least three Headway runners and lots of runners from other charities knew who we were too so we got lots of encouragement. It was a really wonderful event and our cheering team - all ten of us - said it was great fun and totally inspiring; some may even consider having a go themselves (with pursuasion).
Thanks to all the team for being there ... and thanks too to SweetTree for the loan of the training room for the banner painting sessions.

ART of Community Exhibition
Ros Lewis-Williams, an Art Psychotherapist from an organisation called 'Art in Community', earlier this year facilitated a six-week Art therapy program with several Headway North London (HWNL) members. The result was an amazing piece of collective art that reflects the emotions and creativity of, not only the individuals directly involved, but also HWNL as a whole. We're very excited to announce the piece will be included in the following exhibitions:
Guildhall Art Gallery: December 6th - January 6th
Guildhall Yard,

Headway North London becomes a Registered Charity
Headway North London (HWNL) is pleased to announce it has achieved official charity status. Until now HWNL has been a branch of Headway - the National Brain Injury Association but was always funded from local sources including the annual membership fee and donations made directly to HWNL. The change of status will not therefore negatively impact the funding of the group but opens new opportunities to apply for funding from outside bodies. With additional funding we hope to expand the range and scope of the services we provide to meet the needs of brain injury survivors across north London.
HWNL continues to be affiliated to the national charity which means we'll be subject to the same standards and requirements we always have been and will continue to work in partnership with Headay National.
SweetTree Home Care Services support Headway North London
Headway North London would like to say a huge thank you to SweetTree Home Care Services who have recently offered HWNL free use of serviced office space for a whole year! This is an enormous support to the work of HWNL which, up to now, has been mostly run out of the homes of our trustees. SweetTree is an organisation based in north London that provide home based care services. SweetTree also provide a brain injury and case management service. We hope this is the start of a long and fruitful relationship between our two organisations.
