Group Counselling

We are now accepting all referrals (self referral, GP's, health professionals, charity etc.) to the new Headway North London counselling group.

Counselling is offered in group sessions running for 6-8 weeks at a time. There will be 6-10 people in each group and each group is "closed" (i.e. the same people attend the group throughout).

Group sessions run on Tuesday afternoons (exact time, dates and location still to be arranged). The service is free although a £10 deposit will be required at assessment to be returned on completion of the group.

Some non-identifiable information will be gathered from group participants for audit and research purposes (e.g. questionnaires).

You are eligible to join one of the groups if:

  1. You have an acquired brain injury (traumatic brain injury, stroke, aneurysm, infection etc.)
  2. You are 18 years old and over
  3. You will be able to make your own transport arrangements and attend all sessions

Assessments are currently taking place in Euston. If you would like to be considered for the new group counselling service please contact Headway North London on: 020 7372 4477 leaving your Name and a Contact telephone number so we can get back to you.

Note: Although you do not have to live in North London to use this service you must be able to get there independently to attend the sessions.

Why counselling?

Having a brain injury can affect feelings and emotions in many different ways. Sudden changes at home, at work, in social relationships and with friends and family can often have a huge impact on how you feel about yourself and your life. While everyone develops their own way of managing these changes in time, you may not always feel able to cope on your own or know where to turn to for support.

Counselling offers the opportunity to explore and talk through whatever may be on your mind with a trained professional who has the time, skills and objectivity to listen without getting upset or over-involved. Counselling can help you to discover how issues affect you and what your strengths and resources are within your situation. The counselling groups are confidential and offer you a chance to talk openly in a safe, sensitive and supportive setting with other people with experience of brain injury.
